HINTERSEE

The picturesque mountain lake at the foot of the Reiteralpe and Hochkalter came into being during the ice age due to falling rocks, which piled up in the Klausbach (Klaus brook) and blocked it from the Hirschbichl valley.

On the lake there is a regular elextric boat connection, rowing boats and pedal boats can be rented.

The Ramsau district Hintersee is a starting point for many walks and moutain tours to the Hochkalter and Reiterape massifs as well es to the Klausbach valley in the direction of  Hirschbichl. In the winter you can reach the game feeding in the Klausbach valley within 30 minutes from Hintersee.

SALINE PIPE

After a short climb from the hotel, you reach the saline pipe (Soleleitung). In the summer as well as in the winter, this sunny road is perfect for walkers of all age categories and is popular as "walkway". You can make the tour as long or as short as you want, just like you want it. Many settees und several guest houses invite you for a break.

The interested walker can read about the hisotry of this technical master piece pipeline of bygone days on the information desk.

The saline pipeline built in the beginning of the 17th century is often described as  "the eldest pipeline in the world"

This wooden pipeline was used to transport saliferous water. The so called „saline“ was pumped from the salt mine Berchtesgaden through the saline pipeline via Saline to Bad Reichenhall.

In a changed trajectory, through Hallthurm, the saline pipeline is still being used.
